In 2006 I was in the market for a classic car. After doing hours of research on a variety of makes and models I quickly grew tired of the constant bouncing back and forth between information sites used to decode the Vehicle Identification Numbers of potential purchases in order to get a better idea of what was being sold. There was no one single source of information.
If you wanted data on Mustangs you went to one web site. If you wanted information on Corvettes you went to yet another. And heaven forbid you were interested in a non-musclecar. Then you may end up searching for hours for thin or non-existent information on the car of your interest.
After awhile I saw this lack of direction as an opportunity to use my programming skills and interest in classic cars in a single project.
